Calmare is Italian. It means to calm something, to soothe it, to bring it back to stillness. We didn't pick the name because it sounded good. We picked it because it's exactly what this place is for.
This is your house for coming back to yourself. Whether you need a proper reset or just somewhere quiet to breathe, it's here for both. You come in, you slow down, you leave feeling more like yourself than when you arrived.
Sauna, cold plunge, red light, compression, and a rooftop with views over the Pacific. Second floor, 5639 La Jolla Boulevard.

From my love for Bird Rock.Calmare House is a recovery space. Somewhere anyone can come to restore their mind, their body, their soul. I believe deeply that real wealth is two things: time and health. Having access to both, and somewhere to actually use them well, is rarer than it should be. I wanted to change that, right here on our street, with that view.
This couldn't have happened without Gino and Jeff. Between them, decades inside the healthcare system, interventions, clinical work, lived experience from every angle. The three of us share the same conviction about health and longevity. Building this together wasn't a plan. It was the only thing that made sense.

I went to school to teach philosophy.Healthcare was never the plan. But when I was twenty-one, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. By twenty-nine, I'd had my entire colon removed. I spent years in hospitals — meeting with doctors, participating in clinical trials, learning the system from the inside as a patient who desperately needed it to work.
That experience never left me. Thirty years later, I founded KOI Well-Being in La Jolla — a functional medicine clinic built on what I'd spent years learning the hard way. It's directly below this space. That is not a coincidence.
Part of getting healthy is slowing down and savouring the moments in which you are doing something for your body. That is what Calmare House represents for me.
I surf, I do yoga, and I am happily married with three children — which, after everything, feels like the greatest result of all.
Jeff Sternberg is a healthcare entrepreneur who has spent over 23 years building from the inside out — not as a doctor, but as someone who lived through the system as a patient and came out the other side determined to do something about it. Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at twenty-one, he spent years navigating hospitals, clinical trials, and medical decisions that most people never have to face so young.
That experience shaped everything. He founded KOI Well-Being in La Jolla — a functional wellness clinic located directly below Calmare House — and Discovery Health, focused on making advanced health solutions more widely accessible. His conviction isn't academic. It's lived.
Co-Founder · Calmare House · Founder, Hope Interventions · Founder, Grata House · Owner, Windansea Recovery
Ventisette anni.Twenty-seven years sober. And every single one has taught me something no textbook ever could.
I've spent 21 years running interventions, building treatment programmes, and sitting with families in the hardest moments of their lives. I founded Hope Interventions because the right conversation, at the right moment, can change everything. I built Grata House because I wanted to show people what real recovery looks like. And I run Windansea Recovery here in La Jolla because this coast, this light — it gives people room to breathe again.
Calmare House is where that work continues. Not a clinic. A place to maintain what you've built — the discipline, the intention, the daily practice of choosing well.
I surf. I compete in Ironman. I know what it takes to keep showing up for your own body, year after year. That's what this house is built for.
Gino Galofaro brings over 21 years of professional experience alongside 27 years of personal sobriety. As Founder and CEO of Hope Interventions Inc., he is known for high-stakes interventions that create immediate pathways to treatment. He founded Grata House Inc. in Thousand Oaks — a luxury detox and residential treatment programme — and owns Windansea Recovery in La Jolla, blending clinical care with holistic practices in a coastal setting.
Outside of his work, Gino is an avid surfer and Ironman competitor. He is a devoted husband and father to two sons.
